How To Organise Your Scarves!

Saturday, 30 June 2012

I love scarves. I have an absolutely ridiculous amount and organising them has turned into a nightmare. Until recently, they were all piled up on hooks behind my door which meant the ones at the bottom never got a look in. Today however, I had a quick trip to IKEA with my mum and came across this little gadget...

Basically, it’s a coat hander with 28 holes on it for you to hook all your different scarves through. I can’t believe no one has thought of this sooner! Being a bit of an organised neat freak I absolutely love this storage idea and you want to know what the best bit is? It was an absolute STEAL at £1.50.

Have you got any other organisation ideas you’d like to share? Let myself and other neat freaks know by leaving a comment below.

MAC ‘Crosswires’ Cremesheen Lipstick

I mentioned a couple of months ago that I have become a bit of a MAC fiend recently. I’ve always been aware of the brand and have used their products for my eye brows quite religiously but I’ve never really got into the whole MAC obsession. That was until I got given some MAC vouchers. I did a post about what I bought with them here but since then I’ve become a lot more into the brand and have made a few more purchases recently with my most favourite being ‘Crosswires’ cremesheen lipstick.

We all search for the perfect red lippie and I really do feel I found mine in the NARS Pure Matt Lipstick in Versuvio. However I wanted to see if I could pull off some other less red but still bright shades so when I was in Fenwick’s with my boyfriend I picked up Crosswires.

Crosswires is a cross between an orange coral and a pinkish red.
It’s most definitely a summer shade and helps to add a zesty pop to your summer themed make up.

Their creamy formula sits very nicely on top of your lips and allows them to feel comfortable and moisturised. As it is a cream lipstick though, I’ve found re-application every couple of hours is needed for the best colour pay off.

The fab thing about Crosswires is that you can use it as a stain or as a full on block lipstick colour. For during the day I like to use it as a stain but if I’m going out in the evening I’ll use it from straight bullet.

Crosswires costs £13.50 and is available online through the MAC website or at any MAC counter. I’m currently dying to get my hands on the ‘full of joy’ blush but can’t seem to find it anywhere. If you know where I might be able to pick it up please let me know by leaving a comment below!

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wearing Eyeshadow In 'Emerveille' REVIEW

Friday, 29 June 2012

Ah Chanel Illusion D’Ombre, I don’t think there is an eye shadow/cream I love more than you. I really believe these little pots of wonder are worth the hype although it seems to have died down quite a bit recently. The first one I picked up was Epatant which I reviewed here and last week my Mum treated me to ‘Emerveiile’ a beautiful sparkling nude shade.

The Illusion D’ombre eye shadows have a mousse-gel like texture which makes them a dream to apply. You can either apply them quite sheerly to the eye area or build them up to achieve more opacity. I’ve personally been wearing it sheerly over my upper eye area, so right up to my brow bone then building it up quite a bit darker with a natural fibre eye shadow brush from the crease inwards. Top off with some black smudgey, kohl liner and you’ve got a beautiful nude eye makeup look. I then finish with NARS ‘deep throat’ blush and swipe of 17 ‘Beehive’ and i’m good to go!

The packaging is everything you would expect from Chanel: chic, simplistic, classic. They come in glass pots which immediately give them a more luxurious feel and the lids are embossed with the classic interlinked C shape.

The illusion d’ombre’s do not come cheap. They retail at £23.00 a pop which is a lot to spend on a little pot of shadow. That said, I’ve not found anything on the high street/in a drug store that’s equilvilant to the quality of the Chanel one’s and for that reason I really think you get what you pay for. They are an investment but they do last you an absolute age. In fact, you’d probably have to throw it away because of the date before you’d use it up.

Have you tried the illusion d’ombre long wearing illuminous eye shadows? Have you tried any of the other colours or managed to find a high street alternative? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

Benefit B. Right Triple Performing Facial Emulsion SPF 15|PA++ REVIEW

Thursday, 28 June 2012

Every girl searches for the perfect moisturiser right? Recently, I've been working my way through a number of day creams with SPF in them to try and find one that meets the following criteria:

-SPF15 or above
-Formulated for combination/oily skin
-Oil free
-Not to contain mineral or palm oil
-Relatively lightweight and works well over my serum
-Doesn’t break me out in blemishes

I think it’s amazing how it’s only in the last couple of year brands have started to take notice of the 18-30 age range who want SPF in their moisturiser. I remember in my first year of University I was hunting in Lancaster Boots for a good hour trying to find one that met those criteria and it was near impossible.

I’ve tried a few day creams recently, the Murad Anti-Ageing Blemish Moisturiser (which was good but wasn’t anything special), a No7 one (which I really didn’t like) and most recently I picked up the Benefit Triple Performance Facial Emulsion SPF 15|PA++

I’ve been using this for about 2 months now and I have to say, I really quite like it. It certainly ticks all of the above. It’s lightweight, oil free, hasn’t broken me out in blemishes and is SPF 15. It’s a nice moisturiser with a, what I could call, mid range price tag. It retails at £19.50 and has lasted me quite a while. It doesn’t dispense that much product so it saves you wasting loads. The pump action allows you to dispense just the right amount. Another plus is the packaging. Benefit always have a way of making your bathroom cabinet look cute and they don’t disappoint with their apothecary style glass bottle with faux cork lid.

Although I do really quite like this moisturiser, I just know It’s not quite ‘the one’. You know how some products you know you’ll use forever? Mine for example is the MD Formulations Facial Cleanser. Well, I just don’t feel that way about you Benefit Facial Emulsion (it’s me, not you). I just feel you could be so much more and I’m not willing to settle. Now that may sound quite melodramatic but, after all, I am a beauty blogger!

So the quest continues. I’ve currently got my eye on the Avene Hydrance Optimale UV Light Moisturiser with SPF 20. It retails at a much more purse friendly £14.50 and is next on my ‘day creams to try’ list.

Have you found your perfect day cream? Have you tried anything from the Avene or Benefit skin care ranges that you love/hate? Let me know by leaving a comment below.

My New Favourite French Pharmacy Brand - Jean D'Aveze. Fluid Zone T REVIEW

Monday, 25 June 2012

Now it's VERY unlike me to write a review of a product the day I've received it. I usually give it at least a week, or even a month when it comes to a skincare product before I'll type something up. Well, things changed today when I received a beautiful package from a French brand I've never heard of before called Jean D'Aveze. Like every other beauty blogger out there at the moment, I have a strange and compulsive obsession with French pharmacy - I'm yet to try the Bioderma micellar lotion! Have you ever noticed how a large proportion of French women have amazing skin? OK, so maybe not all French women but every French woman I've personally ever met has flawless skin. My beautiful friend and resident Frenchie, Annabella has the most BEAUTIFUL skin I've ever seen in my life so they must be doing something right?!

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. As I said I was sent a beautiful package from the brand and to be honest I really wasn't expecting much but I went ahead and gave their Fluid Equilibrant Zone T (which I guess loosely translated means T-zone balancing fluid) for oily to combination skin a try after my shower. Here is what Jean D'aveze has to say about the product:

"This T-Zone balancing fluid regulates the skins hydrolipidic balance for a smoothed and shine-free complexion. Thanks to its bioactive complex, it improves skin elasticity, increases the skins water content and helps to balance excess oil production. This mattifying fluid is an ideal make up base. Apply twice daily after cleansing"

I double cleansed my face then applied some of the fluid onto a cotton wool pad and smoothed it all over my face. I guessed it would be like a toner but I was quite wrong. In terms of consistency its in-between a toner and a serum and I can't even begin to tell you how nice it feels on the skin. It's wonderfully refreshing and leaves your skin looking and feeling super smooth and matte.

I like the product so much after just one use that I'm already adding it to my payday wish list. It's 34.90€ for a 30ml bottle from here which does seem like quite a lot but I can't tell you how nice it was to use this product. I don't know about its claims to improve the skins elasticity or increase the skins water content without trialling it for longer (I only got a small sachet) but in terms of it providing a matte, smooth base I couldn’t agree more.

I’m really excited to try the rest of the products in the range now after trying the t-zone fluid. Have you ever tried anything from the range? What’s your favourite French skincare brand?

Kleenex Shine Absorbing Sheets Powder Free - My favourite product of 2012 so far!

Friday, 22 June 2012

Picture from my instagram. If you're on there I'm Leer31
My favourite beauty product of the year so far may not be what you'd expect from a beauty blogger but I've fallen head over heels with these little oil blotting sheets from Kleenex. I got a small sample of five of the sheets in my ASOS premier magazine and I really wasn't expecting them to be anything special so just chucked them in my bag to try out as and when needed.

I've always had a thing against oil blotting sheets. I can't stand the ones that have powder on. I just think they feel really chalky and not that nice to use so when I used the Kleenex ones which literally soaked up the excess oil on my skins surface I was seriously impressed!

They really do take away the shine and make your skin look lovely and matte without a the powdery, chalky texture. I probably use one of these every 4-5 hours to ensure my face stays shine free! I've used them on all of my friends and even a few co-workers and every person has been amazed at the sheet after they've used it. It is a bit gross but it just shows they work I guess!

The only bug bear I have with these Kleenex blotting sheets is that they are a nightmare to find. I've tried the big Superdrug in Manchester and the big one in the Trafford Centre at least twice now and they're nowhere to be seen! I can't seem to hunt the little buggers down, it's very frustrating. I've been told they are in Tesco but again, they aren't in my local big Tesco either. Nightmare. You can buy them off the Superdrug website but you have to pay £3-4 postage making the postage more expensive than the blummin sheets! If you've seen them in any shops around the Manchester area or know an online shop where the postage is cheap please let me know as I'm seriously running low on them now and can't be without them!

Overall, a fab little product and handbag essential (if you can find it) that I've loved using and will continue to hunt down!

Revlon Lip Butter Review 'Cotton Candy'

Thursday, 21 June 2012

It seems the Revlon Lip Butter reviews have been doing their rounds this week doesn't it?! I guess we were all sent the gorgeous little package from the lovely people over at Revlon. My instagram feed (Leer31 if you're on there) was littered with pictures of the lip butters and the cheeky bag of sweets that came with it. Very nice touch Revlon, very nice!

PACKAGING

I do quite like the quilted packaging of the Revlon Lip Butters and they do feel a bit more luxurious compared to other lip balms/sticks on the market. I like how each shade has a different coloured packaging too!

APPLICATION

Like I said in my Creme Brulee post I don't think that the lip butters are all that moisturising, especially the Creme Brulee one. This one did seem a lot better but still only lasted half an hour to an hour before reapplication was needed. That said, it's a really pretty shade that makes the most of your lips and I do really quite like the way it looks! I love the hint of gold in it.

PRICE

They are reasonably priced at £7.99 in Boots but they are also often on offer so make sure you watch out for them if you're thinking of getting one.

VERDICT

Overall, I do prefer this cotton candy shade as opposed to the creme brulee one which I REALLY wasn't a fan of. I still wouldn't consider them to be a 'butter' but more of a balm. If you want a nice every day lip balm with a hint of colour to keep in your bag then the Revlon lip butters are a good bet.

Dior Addict 'Plaza' REVIEW

Tuesday, 19 June 2012

 Without Flash
With Flash

Lisa Eldridge, you bad, bad influence you! A couple of weeks ago I was watching the delightful Lisa Eldridge on YouTube (who, if you don't already, you should so subscribe to) talking about her long haul flight essentials. She was wearing this gorgeous rosey pink colour on her lips and later went on to explain it was the Dior Addict lipstick in shade 'Plaza'. It looked like such a pretty, every day shade so I decided to go and have a mosey in my nearest Boots to do a few swatches and possibly buy.

I was at the Dior counter and the sales assistant mentioned how they'd sold quite a few of that particular shade recently. I was tempted but decided to leave it and come back a few days later if I really wanted it. Fast forward to the Monday when I was in Manchester picking up my friend Bridget who was visiting and I picked it up.

It's a gorgeous shade that's perfect for day or night. It's quite sheer and due to it's creamy formula it doesn't last that long but I'm more than happy to pull out my gorgeous Dior lipstick every now and again so it's not that much of an issue. It's moisturising, comfortable and has all the benefits of a gloss without the hassle.

Now for the price... this is one is very expensive and typically I would never spend this much money on a lipstick. It costs £24.00 from Dior counters. As mentioned before, I picked mine up from the big Boots on Market Street in Manchester. It is a lot of money but you do pay for the beautiful packaging and a higher quality product. I love it so much, I'm considering trying out some other colours!

Overall I'm very pleased with my new Dior lipstick and it's been in my handbag ever since I bought it. If you're looking for a 'suits all' lipstick with beautiful packaging and quality then the addict extreme 'plaza' shade is for you!

The Muslin Cloth Swap - Try It tonight!

Monday, 18 June 2012

There was quite a big response to my post 'Do You Double Cleanse?' post (which made me SUPER happy) and a lot of people mentioned how they too loved to use a facial cloth flannel as opposed to muslin cloths too. I've decided to do this post as a follow up to 'Do You Double Cleanse?' for those of you who are adamant  that the only way is muslin cloths!

In the beauty blogging world we are more oftne than not, told use a muslin cloth to remove your cleanser. The muslin cloth of choice appears to be the infamous Liz Earle muslin cloths which are, in theory, to be used with the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. On a side note I do love the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser as a pre-cleanse but I most definitely need the glycolic acid in my MD Formulations post. The problem I had with the muslin cloths was that they never seemed to go back to that beautiful white colour once used once, I found them to be very flimsy and in comparison to using a flannel to cleanse there really wasn't any competition.

The benefits of using a flannel are extensive...

First of all, it leaves your skin feeling REALLY clean and ready for whatever you're going to put on it next. Try it tonight with your cleanser and you'll see what I mean.

Secondly, it's far more economically friendly than using wads of face wipes and endless cotton wool pads. After you've cleansed your face simply pop it in the wash. The one's I use are cheap and cheerful from Asda. You can also get a 10 pack from IKEA. They cost next to nothing and will last you a considerable amount of time compared to the alternatives. They last a hella lotta longer than flimsy muslin cloths anyway...

For super convenience I've folded my flannels in half and sewn 3 edges so you have a sort of mitt. This is really easy to do and makes it much easier to gently remove the cleanser  in small, cicular motions.

Finally, in terms of gently exfoliating the skin a flannel, with it's mild abravsiveness, will produce a much better effect guaranteed. You'll really notice how soft and smooth your skin feels after one go with a flannel in place of a muslin cloth. Putting your serum, moisturiser and eye cream feels so much better when applied to flannel cleansed skin! Your skin will literally drink up your seru/moisturiser!

Also, how pretty do neatly stacked facial flannels look? I always notice it in spas and salons especially when they have beautiful colours. They make your bathroom look prettier and you'll be more inclined to take more time on your skincare routine if your bathroom looks snazzy! (Yes, I did just use the word snazzy, I'm turning into my Mum).

On my cleansing post quite a few people have mentioned to me about using micro fibre towel flannels or even bamboo towels/flannels to cleanse. This is something I'm considering so I'd love to hear your thoughts if you think either of the latter are the way forward! Please leave me a comment below if so.

Ok, I think I've said the word flannel enough now so I'll stop. In a nutshell, try it tonight and you won't be disappoined!

Hope you're all off to a good week. I've got lots of posts coming up this week but as always, if you have any suggestions please do let me know! Don't forget about my St Tropez Spraycation Giveaway where there are 5 St Tropez Dark Tanning Lotions/Sprays for you to win! You have until Thursday 28th to enter!

This week has been a mixed bag of high’s and low’s. The low was on Tuesday night when I decided to mess about with my blog domain name. I somehow managed to completely cock things up and my traffic dropped dramatically. It’s all fixed now thanks to my friend Brendan and I now have the blog domain www.bebeautiful-beautyblog.com but www.bebeautifulblog.org and www.bebeautifulblog.co.uk both still work and re-direct to my new .com. I said I'd do a little shout out to Brendan's girlfriends website for helping me out so here it is! Visit unbeweavable for hair entensions galore!

I’ve had a mad busy week at work too so I was really looking forward to the weekend. I went up to Newcastle to visit Joe as it’s probably the last time I’ll go up to Newcastle for a while now as he moves to London in a couple of weeks. We went to Banburgh castle and had loads of walks on the beach, ate good food and chilled out and relaxed.

Blog posts will be back to normal this week! Have a good week!

Do You Double Cleanse? - A Cleanser Overview

Saturday, 16 June 2012

I’m not one of those lucky people that was born with amazing skin. That said, it’s never been really bad and I’m fortunate enough not to have suffered from acne. Over the years however, particularly whilst I was at University, my skin never seemed to behave itself despite sticking to a strict skincare regiment. I don’t think there was ever a night where I didn’t take my make up off at the end of it. All my friends will tell you what a nagging drunk I am at the end of a night out when I try and force them to take off their make up before crashing out!

After University, it got a bit worse. I think people often underestimate just how much stress can impact on your complexion. When I came out of University and was jobless for a fair amount of time the stress of thinking ‘I’m never going to find a job’ reaped absolute havoc on my skin. There wasn’t any redness and I didn’t have blemishes as such but I had these tiny bumps all over my forehead trapped underneath my skin. On top of that my skin just looked so lacklustre and dull despite all the facial tanner in the world.

Thing’s started to change when I started to double cleanse about 6 months ago. I don’t know why I’d never done this before in my own skincare routine because it was one of the first things I was taught at my NVQ Beauty Therapy night school course that I took on top of my A-levels. There’s a reason why they do it in facials in salons, spas and skin clinics! I was amazed by how much more makeup, dirt and oil came off my facial cloth the second time I cleansed. It suddenly occurred to me that all that extra dirt and oil was still sitting on my skin whilst I slept so I promised that from then onwards I would ALWAYS double cleanse. It just made so much sense! You’re cleanser can penetrate deeper and do its job more effectively once you had taken nearly everything off resulting in better, more beautiful skin.

I have chopped and changed cleansers like you wouldn’t believe but I have always come back to the MD Formulations Glycolic Facial Cleanser. It’s the ONLY cleanser I’ve come across that can help reduce a break out so dramatically. I really notice how dull and lifeless my skin looks when I don’t use it so it’s now a permanent staple in my beauty cabinet and I don’t go anywhere without it. The glycolic acid acts as a chemical exfoliant to gently renew your skin and leave it looking beautifully healthy. Glycolic acid is an ingredient anyone suffering with blemishes needs to look out for – it’s truly amazing in my opinion. I use a gentle Avene cleanser for my first cleanse just in case any one is wondering.

Whilst we’re on the subject of cleansing I don’t care what anyone says, but muslin cloths are crap for cleansing your face with. A face flannel ran under warm watch and wrung out will do a far better job at removing every last trace of makeup. I’ve tried Liz Earle muslin clothes and not only did I feel they didn’t do half the job of a flannel but they felt super unhygienic. I could NEVER get them back to their original white colour no matter how many times I washed them.

In a nutshell, I don’t claim to be any sort of expert when it comes to skincare, but I do feel I’m picking up better tips and tricks as I get older to help me achieve the best complexion I possibly can. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have perfect skin now, far from it, but double cleansing with a face flannel is possibly one of the best steps I’ve taken to reveal better looking skin. So regardless of whether you’re skin is acting up or you already have a beautiful complexion try double cleansing tonight!

Nail Art Inspiration & Some Quick Tutorials

Thursday, 14 June 2012

I've become a bit obsessed with nail art recently and it seems that I'm not the only person. Left, right and center there are some truly amazing nail art designs by some truly talented people. My favourite has got to be The Nailasuarus. Sam is an amazing talent and you should definitely go google her blog - you'll be on it for hours. All of the rest of the images above are from Pinterest. If you type nail art in the search bar tens of thousands of images will come up.

I thought I'd put a few pictures together if you're in need of some inspiration. Below I've listed how you can create some of the looks above.

1. Nude & Pink Glitter Nails
-Paint your nails a beige/nude colour and leave to dry.
-Use a matt topcoat (my favourite is from Models Own)
-Once your nails are COMPLETELY dry (I tend to leave it a good 3 hours) then use scotch tape (it works better than celotape) to create designs.
-Use a pink glitter to fill in the areas you want to separate.
-Peel off your scotch tape and you're done!

2. Map Nails
-The same method as you do newspaper nails.
-Place a bit of cut out map over your nail and use a cotton wool ball dipped in surgical spirit/rubbing alcohol to dab all over the nail.
-Peel off and seal with a toap coat!

3. Multi-Coloured Crackle Nails
-Split your nail into quarters and paint each one a different colour
-Leave to dry then paint over a crackle top coat.
-Apply a shiny top coat and you're done!

Have you seen any amazing eye-catching nail art ideas?! I love discovering new nail art techniques so please let me know by leaving a comment below!

PS: Be Beautiful has been having some SERIOUS technical issues recently which is why I've been a bit quiet! Things are now back up and running smoothly and Be Beautiful has a new web address www.bebeautiful-beautyblog.com however www.bebeautifulblog.org and www.bebeautifulblog.co.uk both still work!

St Tropez Spraycation + Amazing St Tropez Giveaway!

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

It's probably common knowledge if you read this blog regularly that I'm a huge fan of St Tropez. Ever since I had one of their spray tan's in a local salon for my prom nearly 6 years ago (wow!) I've been in love with the gorgeous olivey-golden glow the tan gives. I've since become a fake tan junkie purchasing and testing out nearly every tanning brand on the marke yet I always come back to St Tropez.

I've used their tanning lotion for a good 3 years now but I recently tried their mousse. It's incredible. So easy to use, give an instant colour and doesn't have that horrible biscuit smell (hello St Moritz...!) So when I heard that they were holding a spraycation across the nation I was very intrigued! They have the gorgeous Millie Mackintosh heading the campaign and if her gorgeous, golden glow isn't enough to get you down to one of their events then I don't know what will! You can see some gorgeous pictures of her here.

There are 4 venues you can get a tan (London Westfield is fully booked!):

22-23rd June Birmingham BullRing Centre
29-30th June Manchester Trafford Centre

You can find tons more info at the St Tropez facebook page.

To celebrate the spraycation campaign the lovely people at St Tropez are giving you the opportunity to win a dark lotion or spray! There are five to give away so get entering!
