Battle Of The Bourjous Foundations! 123 Perfect VS Healthy Mix

Saturday, 2 June 2012

I LOVE my healthy mix foundation and I mean LOVE it. It’s one of the best foundations I’ve ever come across and for the bargain retail price of £9.99 from Boots (here) you simply can’t go wrong! Disaster struck however when they didn’t have my shade (52) as I’d just ran out! I decided to pick up the 123 perfect foundation which is one of their most recent product releases as it came in the same shade as the Healthy Mix. I’ve been using it for a good couple of weeks now so have had a decent run of using it. Here’s my verdict...

PACKAGING

The healthy mix foundation is a plastic bottle which means it’s great for travelling whereas the 123 perfect foundation is a glass bottle. I actually prefer the glass bottle as I think it just makes it feel a little bit more luxurious and means it looks prettier on my dressing table. The simply things ey?

APPLICATION

I apply both foundations using my trusty sigma flat top synthetic kabuki brush (if you don’t have one of these in your life then you seriously need to invest, BEST FOUNDATION BRUSH EVER. Word!) Using one pump of the foundation I then dip my kabuki brush into the brush and focus on my t-zone then gently fade/blend it out. Both foundations are slightly runny and to be honest, I can’t spot any major differences.

APPEARANCE

Again, as with the application I couldn’t find any major differences between the appearance of the foundations when on my skin. They both look pretty damn similar to me and as Lisa Eldridge says, they really do look invisible on your skin when you look at it in a super maginifying mirror. Both give medium and full coverage and are both fully buildable.

DURABILITY

I’ve found the Healthy Mix Foundation lasts slightly longer than the 123 Perfect but only marginally. So for this reason on a night out I’d probably use the healthy mix and stick to the 123 perfect for during the day.

PRICE

The Healthy Mix foundation is £9.99 from Boots, Superdrug etc and the 123 perfect foundation is a £1 more expensive and again, can be found in Boots and Superdrug. I’m not sure where the extra pound comes from!

VERDICT

I really do like both foundations and think for high street/drug store foundations they are pretty damn amazing. I think it just goes to show that the more expensive items aren’t always necessarily the superior product!

Overall I’m really impressed with both Bourjois foundations and really can’t find any major faults with either of them. I really can’t choose between either but I guess the nicer packaging of the 123 Perfect foundation slightly makes me side with it. It’s nice to know that I have two options to choose from though if either of them don’t happen to be in stock when I need them! So if you haven’t tried one of the Bourjois foundations I really can’t recommend them more highly!

Has you ever tried anything else from the Bourjois range that you were really impressed with? Let me know by leaving a comment below.
